Selecting the Location:
Select a location that represents you as a couple, such as where you met, where you had your first date, where you got engaged or somewhere that has special meaning to you as a couple. Also consider your hobbies you share, such as hiking, swimming, etc. that could lend itself to options as well.
Things to consider when selecting your location are: will there be a lot of people around? If so, are you okay with that? Are there fees associated with your location? Does the location have open hours you need to work within? Do you need special permission to be there?
Picking Your Outfits:
Your location is going to play an important role in your outfit choice. For example, you aren't going to wear heels if we're climbing a mountain for that breathtaking view. You can also do one dressy and one casual outfit. It would just mean you have to change outside in our pop up tent!
The best thing to do while picking outfits is to coordinate your outfits by picking a primary colour (that fits with the season, see link below) and weave it into both of your looks. The most important thing to do is to dress like you're going to the same place. Avoid crazy patterns, ripped clothes, and anything with blatant branding/logos.
Hair and Nails:
Once you have your session booked, schedule an appointment to get your hair done the week before. Get it trimmed and your roots touched up. Guys, get that beard tidied up and your hair cleaned up as well so everything is on point for those pictures.
Make sure your nails are done too. Even if you aren't the kind of person to go to the salon to get them done, a quick coat at home with the nails trimmed goes a long way. And if you're not the kind of person to paint their nails, just make sure your nails are cleaned up and trimmed up. The same goes for the guys! Trim and clean your nails!
The Ring, Makeup and Other Accessories:
Make sure your engagement ring is clean and sparkly for your session! It will be the focus of a lot of shots (it is part of the reason you're doing these photos after all) so you want it looking the best it can be.
Do what you feel is best when it comes to your makeup. If you're not a makeup person, you can go with a light makeup look, or simply no makeup at all. But don't be afraid to go a little heavier on the makeup as well. It may feel excessive but it will photograph perfectly. Come prepared with your makeup and a small mirror for touch ups as well. Blotting paper is great to have as well in case of excess oil and sweat and makeup wipes to clean the lipstick off your partner if needed.
When you're planning the rest of your outfit, don't forget to include other accessories that coordinate as well. Something like a simple necklace and earrings to hats, scarves, jackets, etc. These items will help add layers to your photos, but it will also give your hands another thing to do such as grabbing the jacket, tipping a hat, etc.
